Paint Restoration
Paint Correction in Oakland Park, FL
Paint correction is the process of mechanically removing surface defects from your vehicle's clear coat using machine polishers and progressively finer abrasive compounds. The result — when done correctly — is paint that looks like liquid glass. Sunflo Detailing performs multi-stage paint correction in Oakland Park, FL, serving Fort Lauderdale, Pembroke Pines, Weston, Davie, and all of Broward County. We remove up to 95% of above and below-surface defects before finishing with two layers of professional-grade ceramic coating.
What Paint Correction Fixes
The most common paint defects corrected in our shop are swirl marks (circular scratches from improper washing or automatic car washes), buffer trails (holograms left by poorly operated rotary polishers), water spots (mineral deposits etched into the clear coat from hard Florida water or rain), light scratches from keys or vegetation, bird dropping etching, and UV oxidation that leaves paint looking dull and chalky. Minor clear coat scuffs from parking lot contact can also be significantly improved, though deep scratches that reach the base coat or metal cannot be polished out and require touch-up paint.
Single-Stage vs Multi-Stage Correction
A single-stage correction uses one cut followed by one polish to remove the majority of defects — it's suitable for vehicles in good condition with minor swirling. Our multi-stage process is more thorough: we begin with a heavy compounding stage to cut through deeper defects, follow with a medium polish to refine, and finish with a light finishing polish to maximize clarity and remove any marring from the earlier stages. The Paint Correction package at Sunflo is always multi-stage, which is why we're able to claim 95% defect removal rather than the 60–70% typical of single-stage work.
The Sunflo Correction Process
We begin every correction with a paint thickness gauge measurement on each panel. This tells us exactly how much clear coat we're working with and sets a safe upper limit on how aggressively we can cut. After a full decontamination wash and clay bar treatment, we work panel by panel under high-intensity inspection lighting to identify defect types and select the right pad-and-compound combination. Correction is performed with dual-action and rotary polishers depending on the severity of the defects. Before applying ceramic, we wipe down with an IPA solution to remove any polish oils, then inspect under lighting one final time.
Pricing by Vehicle Size
Our Paint Correction package is priced at $2,000 for small vehicles (sedans, coupes, hatchbacks), $2,500 for mid-size vehicles (SUVs, wagons, full-size sedans), and $3,000 for large vehicles (trucks, large SUVs, extended wheelbase vehicles). Pricing includes the full multi-stage correction, decontamination, and two layers of professional-grade ceramic coating. Vehicles with heavily neglected paint, very dark colors, or previous poor bodywork may require a custom quote.
When Should You Get Paint Correction?
Paint correction is the right choice any time you look at your car in direct sunlight and see a web of swirl marks across the finish, or when the paint looks dull and flat despite washing. It's also the mandatory first step before a ceramic coating — applying a coating over compromised paint seals the defects in permanently. New car owners often schedule correction within the first year before defects accumulate, while owners of older collector cars use correction to restore paint to near-concours condition before shows or sale.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does paint correction take?
Our full multi-stage paint correction takes 2–3 days. The first day is decontamination, inspection, and initial correction stages. Day two completes the polishing sequence and allows time for the ceramic coating application. Day three (when scheduled) is for final inspection and cure confirmation before pickup. We don't rush the process — cutting corners in polish stages is the most common reason correction results disappoint.
How many times can paint correction be done?
The limiting factor is clear coat thickness. Most factory clear coats are 100–140 microns thick, and a thorough correction removes 3–8 microns. A well-maintained vehicle can safely undergo 3–5 professional corrections over its lifetime. We measure paint thickness before every job so we always know exactly where you stand.
Will paint correction remove deep scratches?
Paint correction removes defects in the clear coat — the transparent protective layer over your paint. A scratch that catches your fingernail is likely through the clear coat into the base coat or primer and cannot be polished out; it needs touch-up paint or a respray. During inspection, we assess each scratch and advise you honestly on what correction can and cannot achieve.
Do I need paint correction before a ceramic coating?
Yes — always. Ceramic coating is crystal clear and enhances optical depth, which means any swirls or defects present at application will be amplified and locked in permanently. All of our ceramic packages include at minimum a polishing stage for this reason. Skipping correction before coating is the most common mistake made by detailers working at lower price points.
How much does paint correction cost in South Florida?
At Sunflo Detailing, multi-stage paint correction with ceramic coating starts at $2,000 for small vehicles and goes to $3,000 for large vehicles. Single-stage correction is included at a lower intensity in our Gloss Enhancement ($800+) and Paint Enhancement ($1,600+) packages. For vehicles requiring custom assessment — dark-colored vehicles, heavily oxidized paint, or show-car preparation — contact us for a quote.
